Commissions
I sometimes have availability for commissions. If you’re interested in commissioning a portrait for a special occasion or just to remember a loved one then please contact me using the details on the Contacts page.
I work at a variety of sizes depending on the clients needs and budget from sittings or photographs depending on the commission.
Artist’s Statement
I work mainly in portraiture, investigating a continuing interpretation of modern portraiture exploring the mental journey and decisions associated with modern life.
I work from sittings, but mostly from photography as it’s very hard for a sitter to hold an expression and make it spontaneous over a long period. My work is concerned with identity, what we show to ourselves and what we show to others. People have many faces, work, family, a public face, all are different, but all are the same person. My continuing practice is to explore the idea of realism within portraiture and to see if it’s possible to show something of who the subject of the painting believes they are as well as what they look like. I want to challenge perceptions as to what a portrait is and could be.
We are constantly bombarded with images, and ordinary images have achieved a significance that makes us look again at what we consider to be art. As our potential expands, the possibilities for what we are able to do have changed. Making work out of small instant captured moments means we can be more inventive. In this way I hope to grow my practise, to challenge what it means to be a contemporary portrait painter.
